Some days, things just go perfectly according to plan. Today was one of those days. I went to a little pond here in South Florida to hopefully get a few shots of some Roseate Spoonbills. What I got was a whole lot more. I managed to capture some great images of a number of different birds I have been wanting to photograph for a long time (but without much success before today).
I went to photograph spoonbills and I did get a few shots of them, like this one here.
But for me another bird stole the morning show. A Reddish Egret. This was my first ever close encounter with one, and it did not let me down.
Reddish Egrets are really fun to watch forage because they run around chasing fish, they also use their wings a lot, both to help them move and also to create shade which aids in catching fish.
To top off the morning I was fortunate to capture a couple of shots of a Belted Kingfisher. Which has proven nearly impossible to for me to get close enough to photograph. This is only the second time I have managed to get an acceptable shot of one in years of trying.
Some times I feel so lucky that it feels like I'm cheating. I would have been more than happy to see any one of these birds up close enough to photograph, and today things went so well I managed to get most of them in a single image
