I recently made a trip to a lake in central Florida. On this particular lake, there are many cypress trees growing out away from the shoreline in open water. This makes for endless photo opportunities which means heaven for me. I got there in the evening and paddled around a bit and took a few photos.
My real goal that evening was to scout out good compositions for the morning so I could be in the right place to take some long exposure shots of the sunrise. To get the sunrise shots I wanted, I first had to endure, a long hot, sweaty and buggy night camping out on the shore. A small price to pay for the resulting images.
Of course doing long exposure images requires a very still camera. Which is made more difficult when you are in a kayak. Luckily my tripod was just barely tall enough to touch bottom and still keep my camera out of the water (check out how close it was below). Nothing like adding a bit of risk of dunking an expensive camera and lens in the water to make the morning more interesting.
