My favorite part of spring time is the abundance of new life. In Florida that means baby birds everywhere. Here are some of this years new critters.
First up, Tricolored heron chicks, These little guys below are only a few days old, but, they grow fast, within two weeks they are out of the nest and climbing around the trees they were born in. Soon after that they are as big as their parents and flying all around the nesting colony.
This is a glossy ibis chick, around two or three weeks old.
The next two photos are of purple gallinule chicks. My favorite part of wading and water birds is that the chicks feet are massive compared to their body. It makes them look really out of proportion but also rather cute. These gallinule chicks had feet that were as long as the rest of their body.
Not all baby birds are as cute. Red wing black bird chicks in my opinion are pretty darn ugly. Of course they don't stay that way long.
